DESCRIPTION:Judges include publishing director Alan Mahar, renowned reviewer Pauline Morgan, children's writer Simon Cheshire and award-winning poet Jeff Phelps \nThree prizes\n&\nThe winning book will be read by a top London literary agent\n\nAbout the Book Award\n\n Books sent to us can be from a publisher or an author published by an independent publisher, or by those who have self published. We do not accept unpublished manuscripts. \n We do not currently accept ebooks. However, if you only have an ebook in distribution and would like to enter, we would suggest you get a copy printed by a print on demand company. Just let us know on the entry form that your book is only distributed as an ebook.\n We accept fiction (all genres), young adult, children’s, biographies, non-fiction, self-help, cookery, poetry, photography etc. There are no limits on the type.\n\n We have a panel of carefully selected expert readers. When we receive your book we pair up the category of your book with our reader's specialist interest. \n\n Our readers observe a strict criteria when reading each book. They are given Book Score Sheets to complete for every book received. In general terms, the most important aspects for you to keep in mind are: whether a book is well written (including structure and style), and whether a book is well presented (cover, pictures (if relevant) and layout).\n\n Three months after the closing date - 31st March 2012 - the results and overall winner will be announced.\n\n\n\nFirst Prize £800 (approx 1,252 US$, 963€ )\nThe winning book will also be read by a top literary agent from MBA\n\n2nd prize £150 (approx 240 US $, 180€)\n\n3rd prize £75 (approx 117 US$, 86€)\nPlease note: the third prize on a leaflet may say £50. This is a misprint. \nWhat is meant by an independent publisher?\n\nThis is a common question we are asked. \n\nUsually it is a small publishing house. However, some have expanded and become much larger. So this year, we are saying that "small" is not a requirement. \n\nHere is a link to the definition of an independent publisher. Essentially it is one that is not owned by another company and not one of the Big Six.\n\nHow to enter\n\n\n You should send one copy of each book, receipt of your payment (or cheque (only in sterling)) and the entry form. \n\n\n Books will be read as they arrive. The competition closes on the 31st March 2012. The winner will be announced approximately three months after it closes. This allows time for the judges to read all the books and to make their final decision. \n\n\n Entries should be postmarked no later than the 31st March 2012. If you think your book will be delayed in the post please contact us.\n\n\n The award money will be paid in sterling via a cheque or PayPal.* The winning book will be read by a top literary agent at MBA. They are under no obligation to take the winner on as a client but you are guaranteed that they will consider your work.\n\nEntry Form\n\nPlease print out the entry form either from the PDF, Word file or from your web browser by clicking here. Once filled out please send it along with your submission and receipt of payment. \n\nPlease note that submissions should be sent via your country's usual postal service and not a courier service. For example, in the UK this should be Royal Mail; in the USA this would be the American Postal Service. If this is a problem please email us.\n\n\nSend your entry to:\n\nThe Rubery Book Award\nPO Box 15821\nBirmingham\nB31 9EA\nUK. \n\nMultiple submissions from publishers or entrants entering more than one book should be accompanied by the Multiple Submission form below.\n\nEntry Fee \nPay Online \n\nThere is an entry fee. If you would like more information on why we charge a fee please click here.\n\nAs we are an international award organisation we do accept entry fees in a variety of currencies. If your currency is not listed you may prefer to select one that is listed and allow PayPal to convert your currency for you. Alternatively contact us requesting the currency you would like added.\n\nIt costs £35 to enter or $50 USD or 40€ (click pay online to see a further list of alternative currencies). We do accept cheques from UK residents provided they are in sterling. They should be made out to the Rubery Book Award.\n\nEntry Fee for Multiple Submissions \nIf you are sending multiple submissions please use the Multiple Submission form. Enter 5 books and enter the 6th for free!\nTerms and conditions\n\n This is an international competition and we accept submissions from anyone in the world provided all submissions are in English.\n\n Each entrant will submit one copy of their book.\n\n Each entrant will fill out the entry form and send with their book.\n\n Books published by independent presses and self published books are eligible to enter.\n\n Entry fees will be paid either by PayPal or cheque. If paid by PayPal, your email confirmation should be printed out and sent with your book.\n\n You may enter the competition as many times as you wish so long as each submission is accompanied with the relevant submission fee.\n\n Your entry must be your own original work.\n\n There is no publication date requirement but books should not be out of print.\n\n All entries must be in book form. If you have an ebook in distribution that you would like to enter please get a hard copy printed (in book form not as a manuscript).\n Unpublished manuscripts are not accepted and will not be returned.\n\n Entries cannot be returned. \n\n The Rubery Book Award holds no responsibility for incomplete or ineligible entries. \n\n Anybody associated with the Rubery Book Award and employees is not eligible to enter. This year this includes any book published by Tindal Street Press.\n\n Entries containing unacceptable (in Rubery Book Award’s opinion), indecent, defamatory, or discriminatory language, pornographic or other unlawful content shall not be considered. \n\n The winners will be notified via email. \n\n All prizes will be paid in sterling either by Cheque or PayPal. The Rubery Book Award cannot be held responsible for any fees levied by PayPal or fees associated with currency conversions.\n\n The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.\n\n By entering this competition each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.\n\nhttp://www.ruberybookaward.com/
