DESCRIPTION:Official Guidelines\n\nPlease read the following guidelines carefully. It would be a shame to be disqualified on technical grounds.\n1. What is the format for entries?\n\nVERY IMPORTANT: IF THE NAME OF THE WRITER IS DIFFERENT FROM THE NAME OF THE PAYER, BOTH NAMES MUST BE PROVIDED IN THE AUTHOR&#039;S INITIAL EMAIL. (This will allow us to match author/payer in our records.)\n\nEnter your 100 words or fewer story inside the text of an email message.\n\nAttachments will not be considered.\n\nPresent your name, mailing address, repeated email address, and your story&#039;s word count at the top of your entry. (This will allow us to match author/payer in our records.)\n\nWe require good grammar and spelling. Demonstrably incorrect paragraphing, grammar, or spelling is cause for return of your story and refund of your payment.\n\nJUSTIFIED LINES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE! Use a plain 12 point font. We greatly prefer New Courier or Times New Roman.\n2. What are the locations of entrants?\n\nEntrants may be located anywhere on Earth.\n3. Must the entries be original?\n\nYour entry must be original, in English, unpublished and not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission. 100 words or Fewer Writing Contest retains one-time publication rights to the First and Second winning entries, to be published once on the 100 words or Fewer Writing Contest website.\n\nNo revisions of stories evaluated and critiqued on from any 100 Words Or Fewer Writing Contest will be accepted. Revisions from other contests you entered are certainly acceptable.\n4. Is there a given topic?\n\nYes. For Contest Nine, there will be two topics: ONE: “EATING” topic, and TWO: “UNCOMMON CHARACTER.” In every case, anything lewd or libelous will be discarded immediately. The payment will not be returned.\n5. Is the word count limitation firm?\n\nYes! Entries exceeding the word limit will not be considered. Type the exact word count (counting every single word, except the title and contact information) at the top of your entry.\n6. What are the fees?\n\nPlease use Paypal for secure payment of entry fee ($15.00); entry plus checkmark evaluation ($25.00); entry, checkmark evaluation and critique ($60.00); and critique alone ($40.00). (An entrant may decide on a critique after sending in a story.) Under special circumstances, a check sent directly to us will be acceptable.\n\nFor Contest Nine, we offer three enticing options:\n\n(1) Entry fee will be $10.00 instead of $15.00 for all entries that arrive by December 18th. During the last three weeks of Contest Eight, entries and requests for checkmark evaluations and critiques almost buried us. It took us up to a month to respond. We are willing to forgo some entry money to have a more peaceful and orderly contest!\n\nOf course, we’ll respond to all entries that arrive by February 18th!\n\n(2) Three entries will earn you a free checkmark evaluation.\n\n(3) Four entries will earn you a free critique!\n7. What is the deadline?\n\nThe deadline for Contest Nine is February 18, 2012.\n\n(Note this is a four month contest.) Any manuscript received after the deadline will not be considered. Entries may be sent immediately.\n8. How will I know if I have won?\n\nThe four winners and ten honorary designates for Contest Nine will be determined by our Final Judge, Erica Bauermeister, on or before March 14th, 2012. Prizes will be issued by mail on March 15, 2012. The Winning writers and their stories, along with names of Honorary designates, will be posted on the website by March 17, 2012, or earlier.\n9. May I send more than one entry?\n\nCertainly. We welcome each entry. Fees are as stated in 6., above.\n10. What is the basis for your decisions regarding each entry?\n\nJudges will look for the following:\n\n immediate pull of the story’s fictional world,\n\n believable characters,\n\n voice, which should contain a personal flavor and possibly humor,\n\n intensity and drive of focus,\n\n power of images,\n\n cadence and flow of sentences,\n\n overall structural integrity,\n\n beauty of language,\n\n suspense,\n\n plot twist, or ending that concludes a coherent story,\n\n power of ending, and\n\n overall emotional impact.\n\nJudges will first segregate stories into higher and lower groups. Stories with higher rankings will be read again and narrowed down for further segregation. This process will be repeated until our final judge determines first, second, third, and fourth places. At each point, judges’ decisions are final.\n\nAwards\n\nWe shall continue with four opportunities to win. First prize winners for both the “Eating” category, and the “Uncommon Character” category will receive $400. Runner-up prizes for each category will be $50.\n\nBonus, Bonus, plus a reward for early birds!\n\nThree entries will earn you a free checkmark evaluation, a very popular add-on. (See an example by clicking on “Checkmark evaluations” in the menu at top right.)\n\nFour entries will earn you a free critique! (A critique often takes the critiquer, Idore Anschell, hours, over several days .) Many contest participants write that the value of our critiques is as significant as the prizes. \n\<a href="nhttp://www.100wordsorfewerwritingcontest.com/" title="nhttp://www.100wordsorfewerwritingcontest.com/" rel="external">nhttp://www.100wordsorfewerwritingcontest.com/</a>
