The contest runs from March 1st through June 15th, 2012. The theme of the contest this year is «Greece» and the first prize is a weekly holiday on the island of Crete plus the air tickets from England to Greece. -- VACATION IN GREECE ! It is true that there are some financial issues in Greece lately. But our Country, and especially the island of Crete, remains an ideal place for a vacation. Nothing can change this. So send us your story and win a fabulous week in one of the most breath-taking places in Greece! -- PRIZES & HONORABLE MENTIONS • First prize: Air Tickets & 7 days stay in Greece (see more below) & publishing of your story in an anthology • Second & Third prize: publication & a Greek handmade ceramic (a copy of Phaestos Disc) from the collection of Omodamos Clayart* *The three prize winners will also get a free copy of the book with the winning stories of our contest & certification document * Four Honorable Mentions win a special gift & certification document * Entry fee:10 euros *Judge: Stella Fitzsimons . -- RULES OF THE CONTEST * The theme of the contest is «Greece» - Your stories must somehow refer to Greece. It’s up to you to make the reference, but keep in mind that we are not looking for a reportage or a chronicle of events happening in Greece. This is a short story contest. *Entries must be short stories, of any genre, and maximum length is 2,500 words and must be previously unpublished in a book, printed magazine or web-based journal. Entries must be in English. *You can submit only one story per person. *This is an international contest. There is no restriction such as nationality e.t.c of the author, but you have to be 18 years old on the 1st of March 2012 to enter the contest. * No www.eyelands.gr editor, judge, or relative of them, is allowed to enter. * Entries can be submitted electronically (see below). * The short list will be announced before or on August, 1st , 2012 * Winners to be announced before or on October 1st, 2012 * Copyright of manuscripts remains with the author. * In addition to the story being published on www.eyelands.gr, the author's acceptance of the prize gives eyelands.gr the right to include the story in the anthology «Stories about Greece» that will appear in book form. Entry gives permission to include the three prize winners in the book which will be published and will be available from our site. * The collection of stories will be published in Greek – the three prize stories will be translated into Greek. -- ENTRY FORM AND PAYMENT * Send an e-mail with your short story attached (in doc. –but NOT in docx or PDF format) to: info@eyelands.gr with subject: Eyelands Short Story Contest *We don’t accept postal entries * Name, address and a short biography (up to 200 words) of the author are to be submitted in a separate attachment to accompany the entry. * The entry fee is 10 euros (or 12 U.S. $) See the banner in our Home Page. You can pay via paypal. * You must pay the entry fee and then send the e-mail with your story attached in word doc format. *An email confirmation that your entry has been received will be sent within three /four days after receiving your e-mail. -- FIRST PRIZE Air tickets for one person: London to Heraklion & Heraklion to London 7 days in Three – Rock studio in South Crete (see all the information you need at http://three-rock.WebStarts.com) The winner can choose the period of the spring/summer/ autumn season (of the year 2013) that he prefers from May 20th to October15th, with the exception of the «high season» month of July 15th through August 19th. - The winner must send an e-email specifying the week they prefer before the end of the year 2012. The winner must choose a week from Monday to Monday (i.e. Monday 10th of June through Monday 17th of June – it means we buy your air tickets for the morning of Monday 10th (London – Heraklion) and your return tickets (Heraklion – London) on Monday 17th (it can be changed to a Sunday night flight if you wish so). So there will be seven nights in Three-Rock studio. Keep in mind that we can afford only the winner’s tickets but the studio is available for two or even three people. So you can come and stay for free with one or two more people, as long as you can afford their tickets. - THE JUDGE Stella Fitzsimons was born in Athens, Greece and lives in Los Angeles, California. She studied Economics, Spanish and Literature. She worked for years as a translator and teacher of Spanish. She has published one novel in Greece as well as a number of short stories and poems in both Greece and the States.. She works as a translator/editor.
