Submissions for the Essay contest have wide latitude in subject matter and style. Examples of submissions that would be appropriate for the Essay contest might include opinion-based essays, historical essays, autobiographical essays, descriptive essays and philospophical essays (this is not intended to be an exhaustive list). We are looking for work that is relatively formal in style, and highlights an idea or perspective that educates, informs or persuades the reader in some way. Essays that present a novel idea, unique interpretation or unusual perspective are looked on favorably. Submissions, which are accepted electronically, should be between 3000 - 5000 words

Multiple and simultaneous submissions are accepted.
Prizes are awarded four times year, and the next submission deadline is April 30, 2013. Winners will be announced by May 31.
$500 is awarded to the winning submission.
The entry fee is $18 per submission.
