The Betsy Sholl Award in Poetry

Judged by University of Southern Maine Professors Nancy Gish and Shelton Waldrep We will accept submissions until December 11, 2011. Entries must be postmarked by December 1, 2011 to be eligible. Page restrictions: Send us five poems at most. Entry fee: $15.00 for each entry (checks made payable to University of Southern Maine, please note “Betsy Sholl award” in memo) All submissions must be previously unpublished. Please make sure that your name appears only on the first page of each poem. A personal information sheet must be attached, and should contain the following information: Title of work, your name, address, phone, e-mail, the name and location of the institution with which you are affiliated (if appropriate), and a short biography of approximately 50 words (written in the third person). Work unaccompanied by this information will not be reviewed. We accept digital submissions, sent to the wordsandimagespoetry@gmail.com address. Contest fees must be mailed to the address below, with a sheet indicating your name, e-mail address and title of entry. 2011 contest winners will be notified by March 1. They will be published in the 2012 edition of Words & Images, and will receive $300 for their work. We will notify only winning entrants and those accepted for publication. Because of the volume of submissions we receive, we cannot return contest entries Words & Images is not responsible for submissions lost in the mail.
