WINNER of our contest will get a literary treasure chest from A Word with You Press, sent to your doorstep, to include signed copies of all our books (the award-winning The Boy with a Torn Hat, The Coffee Shop Chronicles), books from authors who have had a reading here (Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Freedman, Julie Weinstein, Ron Chatham, Dr. Don Hanley, F.J. Dagg, Aliyah Marr, a set of signed prints from Kristy Webster, our editor of The Artist Alcove, a signed print from WussnBoots, 2 coffee mugs and a T shirt from our store and a bumper sticker, a CD of Irish music signed by James Joyce, a lock of hair from Satikush Hemingcat (or mine, your choice!), a kuhl pen and plaque, a gift card for 25$ (if you are local) to The Flying Pig, and, buried in the bundle, a copy of a Thomas Sully painting (specifically, a $20 bill. Thomas, my great great grandfather whose self-portrait graces our banner, painted six presidents in his lifetime, and the lithograph for the twenty is taken from his portrait of Andrew Jackson.) Now here is how to win it. Start with a title: “The art of_______________” You fill in the blank. Could be the art of Picasso, the art of the deal, the art of Thomas Sully, the art of making popcorn, the art of rolling a cigarette. the art of kissing, the art of getting over 500 visitors a day on our website. ANYTHING can go in the blank. But then it gets a little tricky. Your first three words have to start with the letters “A” , “R“, and “T“. For example “Arthur relied totally (on the advice of his mother, who….) or Anglophiles ruined Thorn’s (respect for Guinness and the English language) or Another rotten tomato (hit him squarely in the jaw as he recited the lines to Tennessee William’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.) You get the idea. The story must be no more than 500 words (this does not include the title) and we’ll use MS Word to check the wordcount. Somewhere you must have a word sequence that is is created from the word “Writer”, just like you did for “Art”, like “William remembered intimate things Evelyn regretted having told him, that night they uncorked the…) By entering this contest, you are giving A Word with You Press the right to post your story on line, and first time rights to publish in a hard copy anthology. A Word with You Press is under no obligation to publish an anthology from content that results from this contest, but should we do so, we do not guarantee that each entry will be selected for publication. Those who are published, if we opt to do so, will be issued two courtesy copies that we print. Entries must be submitted in a Microsoft word document attachment. A maximum of three entries per contestant, but each entry must be submitted with a separate email. Each entry must contain the contact information on each page, as well as the title (The art of________) with the blank filled in. Entries must be received by February 28th, midnight, California Time. Send entries to thorn@awordwithyoupress.com. Now! Start dodging artfully all distractions and get your arse to work!
