Writers of all genres may vie to place by submitting their original flash fiction manuscripts for a chance to win the $500 in prize money, writing their stories using one of these inspirational phrases:

"love poems for a girl"
"best chocolate in the world"
"romance village"

Flash Fiction: Stories with a beginning, middle, and end that are less than 500 words but more than 300 words.

1st Place Winner: $200 & publication of submission on Your Story

2nd Place Winner: $150 & publication of submission on Your Story

3rd Place Winner: $50 & publication of submission on Your Story

4th Place Winner: $25 & publication of submission on Your Story

5th Place Winner: $25 & publication of submission on Your Story

Honorable Mentions: The option of having their submission published on Your Story.

All non-winning entries will receive feedback from the judges to help you hone your craft!

Contest Rules:

Entries accepted beginning July 1, 2011.
Entry cost is $10 per entry.
Entries deadline is August 1, 2011 midnight (central time).
Winner announced September 1, 2011 on Your Story as well as other sites including but not limited to FaceBook and Twitter.

Eligibility:

The Your Story Writing Contest is open to unpublished and published writers.
Your Story judges and their families/relatives are not eligible for the contest.

Rules & Submission Requirements:

Entries must be original and cannot include content from another writer's work.
The length of the entry cannot be less than 300 words or more than 500 words.
Writers may only submit up to five entries per contest (fee applies to each separate entry).
Entries must have a beginning, middle, and end. Entries must have conflict. All genres accepted.
Entries should remain within our content guidelines.

Judging:

All entries will be judged by a select panel composed of experienced, published authors. A special guest judge will help select the winner from the top finalists.

Competitors' Rights:

1. By entering the contest, the author:

certifies their eligibility per the contest eligibility rules.
grants Your Story the right to publish their entry on the Your Story site.
confirms their entry is original and unlicensed material owned by them.
will tell Your Story if their entry is submitted elsewhere.

2. By entering this contest, the author:

acknowledges the contest will be conducted in good-faith by Your Story and
agrees to not hold Your Story responsible for any copyright infringements.

The Prize:
The first place Your Story winner will receive a $200 cash prize and publishing on Your Story. 2nd place wins $150. 3rd place wins $50. 4th place wins $25. 5th place wins $25. Honorable mentions are named on our site and have the option for their story to be published on Your story as well.

All genres are acceptable except Erotica, which contains explicit sex.
Realistic violence is allowed as well as moderate detail of injury.
There is no restrictions on language.
Mild to moderate sexual content is acceptable as long as it's necessary to the story.
Horror mixed with violence is acceptable as long as it's necessary to the story.
Drug use is permitted so long as it is not explicit.
